For Valentine’s Day this year, Matt, Henry and I had a very special event to attend – our farewell party. Hosted at my parents house, it was the chance for all of my family to get together, eat plenty of good food, enjoy each others company and have lots of fun!
The Decor
My mum certainly knows how to make any occasion welcoming and beautiful, and paired with a delicious array of sweet treats, it was the ultimate send off! With pastel meringues, delicate miniature Victoria sponges, a gooey chocolate cake and plenty of finger sandwiches, it was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach!
The Gifts
Matt and I were never expecting any gifts, so we very touched when we were presented with armfuls of thoughtful farewell presents. A basket filled with UK goodies from my siblings, a travel book from family friends, a hand knitted bunny for Henry, and a very special charm bracelet passed on from my mum, were all amongst the poignant gifts we very gratefully received. The effort everyone had gone to was very heart-warming, and we’re so thankful to have such caring family.
The Balloons
A party isn’t a party without plenty of balloons! The look of wonder and delight on Henry’s face as we inflated the balloons with a tank of helium was a picture, it may well have been the greatest moment of his life! A slowly descending helium balloon which rose with the heat of a hand, also proved to be a source of much fascination and awe for the adults later that night, (perhaps due to us all enjoying one too many tipples!) It just goes to show, balloons are a source of fascination and fun whatever your age!
The Fun
Henry adores his cousins, and the five of them had so much fun playing with balloons, running after balls in the garden and generally causing chaos together! After the little ones were tucked up in bed, the adults enjoyed a hearty home cooked meal, followed by a heated game of Articulate – always a family favourite!

The Love
We came home feeling very spoiled, and very loved. We’ve still got another four weeks or so left in the UK, but it was a bittersweet occasion all the same, knowing these fun-filled family get togethers will be few and far between once we move to the USA. We’re certainly going to miss them.
*I’m working with Britmums and Balloon Time as part of the ‘Celebration Club,’ highlighting inventive and fun ways of using balloons. I was provided with a Balloon Time helium kit and have been compensated for my time. All editorial and opinions are my own. Visit www.balloontime.com for more information and party inspiration.

This was so pretty and such a lovely party your family had. I love the balloons but I may be biased as I love them a little too much.

what a beautiful way to throw a going away party! My boss grew up in England and loves PG tips, so we have a box in our office at all times. Good news is that they are available in many grocery stores here. As for great chocolate, nothing beats English Cadbury!
