A woman’s relationship with her postpartum body is a complex one. It is a body which has given life to another human; a precious new soul, through nourishment and safety. It has endured the intensity of birth. It is truly miraculous and awe inspiring.
Then there’s the inevitable changes to a woman’s body that come hand-in-hand with pregnancy and birth, which can be difficult to accept. The weight gain. The stretch marks. The loss of muscle definition, the softening of the body and the blurring of the silhouette.
But I love my body.
My body is amazing. It has allowed me to carry four children; a total of 24 months of pregnancy in the last 3 years. In my body, my twins had life. The only life they would ever know. My body has sustained my two living children in the early part of their life… and it is these things I focus on when I look in the mirror, and not the parts I would change if I had the time or inclination to do so.
Loving your body is so much more than how you (and others) perceive it. For me, it’s more about loving my body through nurturing it, respecting it, and allowing it to be its best self. So I strive to eat more healthily, I try and dedicate time to yoga to strengthen it, and I wear clothes that flatter my shape and make me feel confident in myself.
A simple way to boost body confidence is by investing in well fitting and pretty lingerie. For this post, I collaborated with Le Mystere, who believe that wearing the right size bra can do amazing things – whether it’s making you feel and look your best in clothes or just simply giving you that extra bit of confidence. And I agree, something as simple as wearing well fitting lingerie can make a big difference in how we view our bodies, and that can be so important to women – especially mamas who are still coming to terms with their newly changed body.
Particularly postpartum, and post breastfeeding, its a good idea to get fitted professionally to ensure the best fit. We’ve all heard those stories where a woman goes for a professional fitting and she’s shocked to discover she’s been wearing the wrong size for years! So treat yourself to some new lingerie and have a bra fitting as part of the experience. Le Mystere have recently relaunched in Nordstrom, so it’s the ideal opportunity to visit one of their Brand Ambassador’s in store to get fitted and give your body confidence a boost by wearing the best fit.
I first fell in love with the Le Mystere Sexy Mama – a beautiful and feminine lace nursing bra – and I’ve recently been trying out some of their other selections…
Safari Invisible Comfort
I love this bra, and I’d recommend it wholeheartedly to any mama. As a size 32E, I need underwire for support, but they can sometimes be uncomfortable. The Safari Invisible Comfort is a new addition to the solutions range, and provides support without a wire. Instead, there’s flexible gel technology embedded between the foam contour cups and side seams. It is so comfortable to wear that I don’t notice I’m wearing it, which is what I want when I’m running around after two little ones. Comfortable, but supportive – it’s the ideal combination.
Sophia T-Shirt Bra
A T-shirt bra is a staple for any women’s lingerie collection. I love that this one has a touch of scalloped lace peeking out which adds a touch of prettiness to a practical piece, but won’t show through your clothes.
Infinite Possibilities
Soft-brushed memory foam cups, double-layer satin micro wings and a super plunge silhouette – sounds pretty fabulous! This bra transforms wardrobes with its six style options: cami, close back, wide-low back, racerback, crisscross, and halter.
The Convertible
The latest addition to the solutions range, the Convertible can be worn with multiple different strap configurations, and features a detachable lace panel that shifts the silhouette from cami bra to racerback. I love the panel feature which is perfect to pair with lower cut tops, and saves me from having to wear a separate cami underneath.
Having a selection of well fitting bras means even in those rushed mama moments when I throw on the first thing that is lying around, I always feel supported and body confident.
