I mentioned in my Nair Silky Sensations post I suffered from Keratosis Pilaris on my legs and I had a few questions about products I’d recommend to deal with it. As an inherited skin condition, frustratingly there is no cure, but there are palliative treatments which can calm the condition.
I’ve found the best solution to treat KP is to kill it with kindness. With plenty of TLC, I’ve found the condition can be managed and exfoliation and hydration are key to lessening the appearance of inflamed bumps.
Body Brush
Body Brushing has been a saviour for me when it comes to KP. With daily use, dry body brushing gently exfoliates and improves circulation. If you persevere, body brushing miraculously transforms rough bumps and ingrown hairs into soft, smooth, beautiful skin. I use a body brush from The Body Shop which I bought years ago, they seem to last forever!
Exfoliate
For use in the bath or shower, The Sanctuary Salt Scrub (Β£10.20) gives a double whammy of love and care to your skin. The salt ever so gently removes dead skin cells and resurfaces the texture of the skin, whilst almond, coconut and jojoba oil leaves a protective moisture barrier. Skin is intensely hydrated whilst dry skin and rough bumps are kept at bay.
Moisturise
For a luxurious treat after your shower, Lush Dream Cream (Β£10.25) is the ultimate antidote to KP (and apparently amazing for eczema too.) Lavender, chamomile and rose calm skin irritations whilst cocoa butter, olive oil and oat milk soften dry skin. Containing an abundance of essential oils and tea tree (a mild antiseptic), Lush Dream Cream is literally a dream cream for those suffering with KP.
Hair Removal Cream
I’ve only recently discovered cream is the best way to remove hair for those with KP on their legs. Shaving aggravates the bumps and can be painful, whilst waxing is notorious for causing ingrown hairs – the last thing you want when you have keratosis pilaris! Cream is gentle on the skin and results in the smoothest finish.
For other treatments for KP, keep a lookout for products containing Glycolic Acid (AHA), Lactic Acid, Urea and Vitamin A.

Wow, very useful tips. I'll definitely give those products a try.
I'm a bit confused about the shaving part, though. Do you have KP on your legs as well? Or do you shave your arms?
Amy Antoinette says
@Jolien – Yes, I have it on my thighs π so shaving referred to legs not arms!

Like Lindsay, after doing much research i've been using Coconut oil.. It's a solid, but once you touch it your body heat causes it to melt into a oil..
I've used it twice, once just applied to my legs and then i've put my pj bottoms on (dry legs) and the other time to damp skin just after getting out of the shower.. It's truly amazing! After just using twice the difference is AMAZING I really can't believe it.. I'd definately recommend you try it Amy, it leaves your skin so soft and hydrated and the bumps massively reduced. xx

I didn't know kp was so common. I use to hate wearing shorts in the summertime because people would ask about the bumps on my legs or tell me I need to shave, but now I don't too much care what anyone has to say, I embrace my kp lol.

I did a post a while ago about how to get rid of 'arm bumps' and mentioned in it that more serious 'bumps' are this condition, good to see another blogger who has talked about it π

I have been fed up with my skin for years! Just today — I finally discovered what's wrong with it, KP. I've tried every which way to figure out how to take care of it & nothing ever works. Crossing my fingers that your suggestions do the trick! Best blog I've read since discovering what KP is & how to address it. Thanks!! (and further luck to your skin too)

You can try using aloe, tea tree and witch hazel to help control your kp

The treatment of the keratosis pilaris includes medications such as topical exfoliants and topical retinoids. For some severe conditions, the doctor may advice laser therapy. Medications do not tend to improve or cure the condition permanently, whereas laser therapy greatly cost the patient. No particular treatment proves to improve the condition except the one offered by Herbs Solutions By Nature. The product named as Kerneton has actually proved to treat countless of customers of the product effectively and efficiently. it has been prepared through years of research and experiments, it consists of some very useful herbal ingredients gathered from all over the globe, leaves no point of possible risks or side effects. The product is truly affordable, thus an effective treatment within your range is definitely a win win situation!
